Simply using content from existing marketing materials for your website
won't necessarily be the best way to approach content for your website
and you may lose potential customers.
Keep this in mind when you are producing content for your new website or
updating or adding new pages to an existing website. Discover Me Design
email a content fact sheet to help you with this process early on in
the web building process.
The difference:
Print
Printed materials allow customers to sit back, relax and read, wherever
they like, when they choose to. Readers have time to peruse your
information and can easily pick up wherever they left off.
Web
Web users are usually time poor and are in a hurry, so they 'scan'
information quickly. They already know what information they need or
what action they would like to take before they arrive at your website.
You only have a small window of opportunity in which to secure their
attention.
OK, so what do I need to keep in mind?
We have included a "Do's and Don'ts" section on the Discover Me Design
contact fact sheet. You can download it
here. Here are just a few:
- Do highlight important information
- Do use one idea per paragraph
- Do keep the page length short and the text to the point
What should I NOT do?
- Don't use fancy words, readers prefer plain spoken words
- Don't include unnecessary images and graphics - it's distraction
and can look like advertising
Remember - producing content for your website is a big job. It takes time but is worth getting it right!
If you do not have the time or resources we recommend hiring a copywriter who has produced copy for websites. Please
contact us if you would like Discover Me Design to provide these services.
